Firm prepares to study how to address PFAS contamination in south and northeast Bennington
MSK Engineers is gearing up to produce a preliminary engineering report on addressing PFAS contamination in homeowner wells on both the southern and northeast ends of town, including the southeast section of Shaftsbury. Jason Dolmetsch, of MSK Engineers, included this in a summary he gave the Select Board of ongoing municipal water projects at their meeting on Monday.

MSK Engineers to complete an inventory of water service lines
The South Burlington Water Department (SBWD) has contracted with MSK Engineers to complete an inventory of water service lines in the City. This is in response to federal drinking water regulations passed by the US EPA in 2021. The new regulation requires all water systems in the country to develop an inventory of service line pipe materials for every service line in the water system.
Bennington Vermont skate park work could begin this summer
Construction on a new town skate park off Depot Street could begin later this year. The park developer, GRINDLINE, will now create a final design, while MSK Engineers will complete an analysis of the park site and the state permitting requirements.
City of Essex Junction water service line inventory project
The City of Essex Junction has contracted with MSK Engineers to complete an inventory of water service lines in the municipal water system. This initiative is in response to the federal drinking water regulations passed by the US EPA in 2021. These new regulations require all water systems in the country to develop an inventory of service line pipe materials for every service line in the system in order to identify water pipes that may contain lead pipes so they can be replaced.
State, town to update response to PFAS in local wells
The State Department of Environmental Conservation has completed additional investigations regarding the impacts of PFAS on water supply wells in southern Bennington. The state and the town of Bennington will hold a public meeting December 5 for residents of Bennington and Shaftsbury to provide an update on the investigation findings.
