Challenge

The Welling Soccer Field in the Village of North Bennington required a redesign to redevelop the existing baseball outfield into two soccer and lacrosse fields, while eliminating the need for excess soils removal from the site.

Solution

Our design plan for the reconfiguration included field layout and grading, drainage swales, and appropriate demo and construction details. A unique design constraint for this project was the need to minimize the off-site export of soils. Our permitting activities included local permitting well as preparation of an application to the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources to obtain a Construction General Permit 3-9020 for the discharge of stormwater runoff from construction activities. We prepared full specifications for the project and assisted the Village with bidding as well as value engineering. As part of survey and construction coordination, our team provided drawings of the proposed finish grades for Village use and field survey grade stakes. A stakeout of four corners and center line of the two new fields will be provided after construction

Results

The majority of the work was completed in 2024, with the soils temporarily stabilized prior to the winter. Final construction was completed in spring 2025. The new fields will provide a much-needed athletic facility for the community.
