Challenge

The clubhouse of the Manchester Country Club is situated in a localized depression, and the Pro Shop is located in the walkout basement of the clubhouse. This localized depression was directing stormwater flows from the building's roof, causing precipitation in the immediate vicinity of the building to flow into the building's walkout basement and flooding the Pro Shop.

Solution

We evaluated flooding mitigation alternatives focusing on stormwater flows in and around the clubhouse and the improvements that could be made to reduce this flooding. This included conducting an existing conditions survey to collect topographic, utility locations, and stormwater infrastructure elevation data in the vicinity of the clubhouse. We then used the data collected during this survey for the basis of our design. Our design greatly improved the existing stormwater collection system and modified the existing site grading to direct stormwater away from the building, reducing the frequency and magnitude of stormwater flooding events.

Results

The design was successfully constructed in 2023 and has performed as designed during multiple heavy rain events.
