Challenge

In response to PFAS contamination affecting private wells, a public water main extension is being implemented along Settlers Road and Springhill Road to provide clean, reliable drinking water. The project includes trenching, removal of existing asphalt and subbase, installation of water mains, thrust blocks, hydrants, curb stops, service lines, interior residential plumbing connections, well abandonment, roadway base and pavement installation, and other associated site work.

Solution

As part of the design and implementation process, MSK Engineers conducted proactive outreach to affected homeowners to explain the project scope, answer questions, and coordinate site visits. During these visits, MSK personnel assessed individual property layouts to determine the most practical and least invasive routes for new water service line connections, minimizing impacts to yards, driveways, and landscaping.

Construction involved the installation of new water main infrastructure, including waterlines, hydrants, and individual service lines. Interior plumbing connections were completed to bring public water into homes, and existing private wells were properly abandoned in accordance with regulatory standards. Following installation, roadway base and pavement were restored, along with all associated site work, to return the area to pre-construction conditions.

Results

Throughout construction, MSK provided construction administration, served as Clerk of the Works, and conducted on-site inspections to ensure the work was completed in accordance with contract documents
